Slabs step in 250 g bands. 505 g costs the same as 750 g — so the grams just past a cut-off are pure waste.
Questions sellers ask
Why is my shipping higher than my product's weight?＋
Couriers bill on chargeable weight, which is whichever is higher: the actual weight or the volumetric (dimensional) weight of the box. A light but bulky parcel — a cushion, a dupatta set, anything in an oversized carton — bills on its size, not its scale reading. This is the single most common reason Meesho sellers overpay.
How is volumetric weight calculated?＋
Length × Width × Height in centimetres, divided by the courier's divisor (5000 for most Indian couriers, 4000 for a few). The result is in kilograms. A 30 × 25 × 8 cm box is 6,000 cm³, which at divisor 5000 bills as 1.2 kg — even if the item inside weighs 400 g.
What's the fastest way to cut my shipping cost?＋
Right-size the packaging. Most sellers reuse one big carton for everything, which pushes light products into heavy slabs. Switching a bulky box for a snug poly mailer often drops one or two slabs instantly, with no change to the product. Second: watch slab boundaries — being 20 g over a cut-off costs the same as being 200 g over.
Should I put stickers or coloured borders on my catalog image to lower shipping?＋
No. Some tools claim decorative overlays change the rate a marketplace quotes. Even where a quote shifts, the parcel's real weight hasn't changed, so the difference gets reconciled — and promotional badges on catalog images breach marketplace image guidelines and can get listings pulled. Cutting real weight and real box size lowers cost permanently and carries no account risk.
